Spotted this beauty near Heidelberg Castle while I was in the region recently for work. Toured the castle over the weekend and while walking back down to the main part of town I came across this.  Poor thing was out in the rain.

The train from the airport to Mainz, where I was staying, went past the Opel factory.  I saw many Insignias lined up outside as well as a row of them branded as Buick Regals.  As a 2018 Regal GS owner this excited me.  Sadly I was not able to find an opportunity for a factory tour on this trip.  It’s on my to do list for my October work trip.

I always wondered whether these were named after the dance or the city.

The dance - or , r a t h e r, the period in time when that dance was very popular (mid- to late 20s).

For reference, the very first “Charleston” version of the 2CV (it was going to be a limited run) was painted exactly with those colours (also the headlight pods). Tellingly the maroon paint was called r o u g e D élage by Citroën.

Once it became a mainstream model there were also yellow/black and grey/grey paint schemes – a n d t h e pod s w e r e c h r o m e d .

I actually was on the factory tour at the Opel plant in Rüsselsheim back in 2009 when the first Insignia was new. Quite interesting. Best part of it though was the vintage collection which isn’t open to the public.
